Marcos, Chinese foreign minister meet in Malacañang; discuss agri, infra, energy ties

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. disclosed that he and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed future areas of cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, and energy during their meeting in Malacañang.

Wang paid a courtesy call on Marcos on Wednesday, July 6, to extend President Xi Jinping's message of congratulations to the new President and discuss various areas of cooperation.

Shortly after their meeting, Marcos took to Twitter his gratitude to the Chinese official in visiting the Philippines.

"I am grateful to Minister Wang Yi for extending the message of congratulations and support from President Xi Jinping," Marcos said as he shared photos of them in the meeting.

"We also discussed agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and our commitment to maintaining the strong relationship between our peoples in the coming years," the President added.

The Palace, however, has yet to release further details on the two officials' meeting.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, July 5, Marcos made a pronouncement that the country would "increase the scope" of the two nations' ties such as cultural and educational exchanges and “even military if that will be useful.”

He said the maritime dispute between the two countries is not the only concern both sides must talk about.
