Comelec to request OSG's representation amid SC resolution on proclamation of Agoo mayor

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be referring the Supreme Court (SC) resolution on the mayoralty election in Agoo, La Union to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) as part of standard protocol.

"Per standard protocols and procedures, we will be referring the matter to the OSG, requesting their good office to represent the Commission," Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco stated.

As of press time, he added that they have just been informed that the Clerk of the Commission received the resolution Wednesday noon via email. The SC resolution contained a temporary restraining order (TRO) and a status quo ante order (SQAO).

This halts the enforcement of Comelec's May 13 resolution which cancelled the certificate of candidacy (COC) of Frank Ong Sibuma in the last May 9 mayoralty election in Agoo, La Union.

Laudiangco confirmed on Tuesday that the poll body Calongcagon as the duly elected mayor of Agoo.

It was last May 13 when the Commission (Second Division) promulgated a Resolution granting the petition of Alma Panelo to cancel the COC of Sibuma for the position of Mayor in connection with the 2022 National and Local Elections.

The case is for cancellation of COC due to material misrepresentation.
