100-year-old grandma gets P100,000 b-day cash gift from Taguig mayor

A grandmother received a cash gift of P100,000 from the Taguig City government on her 100th birthday on July 5.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano personally visited "Lola" Vicenta Garcia of Barangay Bambang and handed her a check for P100,000 and greeted her.

“Happy happy 100th Birthday, Lola Vicenta! Magiliw pa niyang ipinakita sa akin ang lumang litrato nilang mag-asawa, pati na rin ang sa kanyang mga anak at apo. Tunay nga na para sa ating mga Senior Citizens, pamilya ang kanilang yaman! (She happily showed me old photos of her and her husband, also of her children and grandchildren. It is true that for our senior citizens, their families are their treasure,” Cayetano posted on Facebook.

The mayor said Garcia worked as a teacher for 37 years.

“Masaya, masaya ako. Birthday mismo. Gusto ko pa yung isa kong apo makatapos. Isa pa pinag-aaral ko. Lubos po ang pasasalamat ko sa 100 years. (Happy, I am happy. On my birthday. I want my grandchild to finish . I am sending one to school. I am so thankful for my 100 years),” said Garcia in a video.

She said from the amount she received, she will give a portion to the church, barangay and to her nephews and nieces.

Centenarians are given P100,000 by the city government and will receive the same amount every year.

In addition, City Ordinance No. 25 approved in 2017 grants P3,000 to P10,000 to senior citizens in Taguig as birthday cash gifts depending on their age bracket.
