Scattered rain showers persist in parts of S. Luzon, VisMin due to LPA, ITCZ

The low pressure area (LPA) embedded within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over some parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, July 5.

PAGASA said that the LPA, which formed inside the country’s area of responsibility on Tuesday, was at 330 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon, at around 3 a.m.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next two to three days.

However, he said that the LPA and the ITCZ may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Quezon, Aurora, Isabela, Cagayan, Bicol Region, Caraga, and Visayas.

PAGASA advised those in these areas to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides caused by “moderate to at times heavy rains.”

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the ITCZ and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Moreover, the entire archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
