Marcos eyes expanding fuel subsidy to tricycles

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is looking to expand the government's fuel subsidy to tricycle drivers.

Marcos said this was among the matters they discussed during his first Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, July 5.

"We just discussed that we are going to try not only to continue the fuel subsidies for the transport sector but to expand it to include the tricycles, which up to now have not been included," Marcos said during a press briefing in Malacañang after the Cabinet meeting.

The President said while he believes that there is still enough budget for the expanded coverage of the fuel subsidy program, they will still have to find additional sources of funds to sustain it.

"e talked about the funding, where it can come from and how we are going to manage the --- how we are going to manage the funding for the additional fuel subsidies," he said.

"We have enough budget I think to last for most of this --- for this year and a little bit beyond. But we still have to find that money if we’re going to continue," he added.

Marcos, however, did not mention if they discussed the possible source of funding for the additional coverage.

He said he will meet again with the Cabinet members more constantly within the coming weeks.
