Filipino visual artists come together for 'A Seat At The Table Book 2' exhibit

Agos Studio’s latest showcase will be part of the Ortigas Art Festival 2022

For the second time, Agos Studio brings creatives together for an exhibit that is founded on honing the talents and skills of budding Filipino mid-career artists. Dubbed “A Seat At The Table Book 2,” the exhibit puts the spotlight on the works of visual artists mentored by social realist artist Renato Habulan.

Curated by Habulan, the sophomore exhibit showcases Jessa Balag, Mel Cabriana, Grace Corpus, Eugene Cubillo, Melvin Culaba, Thomas Daquioag, Caloy Gernale, Eric Guazon, Lotsu Manes, Kaye Oyek, Kirby Roxas, Wesley Valenzuela, and Anthony Victoria’s artworks, with Mideo Cruz as its featured artist. The 13 artists through e-mentoring under Agos Studio since the pandemic. Much like a torch-passing ceremony, connecting mid-career artists from senior artists to mid-artists to young artists.

Manila Bulletin Lifestyle chats with Eugene Cubillo (Facebook and Instagram: @eugenecubillo), one of the exhibitors, about the piece he will be showcasing. Called “Banal-banalan,” 36x24 inches painting centers on the idea of a false saint, something pretending to be holy. “This, in my experience, is very common in our fake and plastic-filled society,” Eugene says.

According to Habulan, these artists were chosen because they have demonstrated the ability to continue doing what they do (painting/creating artwork) despite challenges and ups and downs in art production and in any situation.

“A Seat At The Table Book 2” will be part of Ortigas Art Festival 2022 and will be available for viewing starting July 7 at the 2/F Estancia East Wing, Capitol Commons, in Pasig City.
