Northern Mindanao crime rate drops 9.40 percent in first half of 2022

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO)-10 reported Monday, July 4, a significant decrease in the crime rate in Northern Mindanao from January to June this year.

In a statement, the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) tallied 7,280 incidents in the first six months of the year, 755 incidents or 9.40 percent lower compared to the 8,035 incidents recorded from January to June in 2021.

From January to June this year, the regional police arrested 1,147 individuals in anti-illegal drug operations and confiscated 4,193.553 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of P28.5 million.

The PRO-10 arrested 147 wanted persons in their Simultaneous Anti-Criminality and Law Enforcement Operation (SACLEO), several of whom were high-ranking wanted persons.

The PRO-10 held 1,848 operations against loose firearms through the different city and provincial police offices in the region. Police arrested 225 individuals and 387 firearms had been surrendered and recovered.

Police Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., PRO-10 director, stressed that the decrease in the crime rate is a manifestation of effective law enforcement operation from authorities.

“The significant decrease of crime rate in this region is attributed to the PRO-10’s intensified and continuous conduct of Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operation, One-Time, Big-Time Operation, and other law enforcement operations,” Acorda said.

He denied allegations that the police in the region were allegedly inactive.

“All of us here in the PRO-10, we will not stop in our job to keep this region a peaceful one. Even if someone opposes or criticizes us, this is not a hindrance for us to continue our job,” Acorda said in vernacular.

“The allegations of some individuals that your police in region 10 are inactive are baseless and unfounded. Our records speak itself. We will continue on our law enforcement operations and eliminate all forms of criminalities,” he added.

Acorda urged the public to continue their coordination with the police as it would provide a huge contribution in maintaining the peace and order in the region.
