President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. was all praises for the Presidential Security Group (PSG) as he noted how the nation's stability relies on the success of its mission of safeguarding the presidency.

Marcos said this during the PSG Change of Command Ceremony for outgoing PSG commander Brigadier General Randolph Cabangbang (Philippine Army) at the PSG Grandstand in Malacañang Monday afternoon, July 4.

In his speech, the President said the mission of the PSG goes beyond protecting the First Family and foreign dignitaries who come to visit the country as they are out to protect an institution on which the lives of the Filipinos depend.

"What you are guarding is not only the personages of the First Family, but you are guarding, keeping safe an institution-- the institution of the presidency. Because should you fail in your mission, that institution will collapse, and the effects on our country will be dire," he said.

"With integrity and valor, let us remain united in safeguarding our institutions as they strive to bring about a more secure, peaceful, and dignified life for the Filipino people," he added.

Marcos said the sensitivity of the PSG's job was why they "only pick the best men and women that we have within our military" to join the group composed of people he described as the country's "most dedicated and reliable men and women in uniform."

He likewise thanked the PSG troopers for choosing to serve the country despite their many sacrifices.

"Let me take this opportunity to express my gratitude to every PSG trooper for the many valiant efforts in their performance of their duty. Each and every one of you has shown undaunted courage and unbridled patriotism by choosing to be of service to our beloved country," the President said.

Meanwhile, President Marcos congratulated outgoing PSG commander BGen Cabangbang for his highly successful tour of duty as the head of the PSG.

"Under his steady and unwavering leadership, the PSG was able to provide security for the First Family," he said, referring to the family of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

He also lauded Cabangbang for ensuring the completion of several key PSG facilities, including the PSG Station Hospital and the Women's Auxiliary Corps Barracks.

"The completion of these key infrastructures will certainly help strengthen the PSG. It will also inspire the PSG to strive for excellence whatever their position may be," Marcos said.

During the ceremony, Cabangbang received the Distinguished Service Medal, an award given to officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the "valuable and exceptional service rendered in a position of major responsibility" as PSG Commander.

Meanwhile, President Marcos thanked incoming PSG Commander Col. Ramon Zagala for accepting the challenge of leading the group.

"I trust that under your leadership, the PSG will be able to continue the excellent provision of security to the Office of the President and the First Family, as well as visiting Heads of State and diplomats," he addressed Zagala.

Like his predecessor, Zagala is also from the Philippine Army. He was also a former spokesman for the AFP. He concurrently holds the position as the Acting Senior Military Assistant to the President.
