Pinoy in Singapore infected with monkeypox—DFA

A Filipino in Singapore has tested positive for monkeypox, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) disclosed Sunday, July 31.

"There is one reported case of a Filipino male in Singapore who has been infected with monkeypox. Singapore PE (Philippine Embassy) is monitoring the case," DFA Spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said.

According to the local situation update of Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) on July 25, the patient is a 31-year-old man.

It disclosed that the Filipino patient tested positive for monkeypox on July 25, and is currently confined at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). His condition is stable, MOH said.

"The case is not linked to any of the monkeypox cases earlier announced by MOH," the Health ministry said, adding that contract tracing is ongoing.

It was also reported that the Filipino patient developed fever on July 21, and started having rashes on his face which later spread to other parts of his body. He sought medical care at SGH on July 24, and was admitted on the same day.

Daza said this case was different from the first case reported in the Philippines on July 29 as the patient, also aged 31, arrived from abroad last July 19, while the case reported in Singapore is still admitted in the foreign country.

At present, the Foreign Affairs spokesperson said they can only divulge limited information to protect the privacy of the patient.
