QCPD headquarters' security tightened after death of Ateneo gunman's father
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has tightened the security of its headquarters following the killing of the father of Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol, the gunman in the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) shooting incident.
Rolando Yumol, 69, was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men in front of their house in Lamitan, Basilan on Friday morning, July 29.
Maj. Wennie Ann Calle, QCPD Public Information Office chief, told Manila Bulletin Saturday, July 30, that district director Brig. Gen. Remus Medina and the lawyer of Dr. Yumol had a "closed-door" meeting regarding the security at the headquarters in Camp Karingal, Barangay Sikatuna Village, where the gunman is currently detained.
She said visitors at the headquarters were thoroughly checked or scrutinized.
Calle added that the heightened security measure was implemented as there were some individuals who visited and introduced themselves as Dr. Yumol's lawyers but failed to provide certain information when asked.
She also said that the younger Yumol was isolated from the other detainees in the QCPD Centralized Custodial Facility.
Dr. Yumol shot and killed Rosita "Rose" Furigay, former mayor of Lamitan Basilan; Victor Capistrano, the former mayor's aide; and Jeneven Bandiala, an ADMU security guard, inside the university on Sunday, July 24.
On July 27, the QC Prosecutor's Office indicted the suspect with multiple criminal charges including three counts of murder, one count of frustrated murder, malicious mischief, violations of Republic Act 10883 (Anti-Carnapping Law) and RA 10592 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition).
