Construction of farm-to-market road, bridge in Bayambang to start soon

BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan – The construction of a farm-to-market road and a bridge envisioned to benefit the Bayambang onion planters and other farmers in their farming would soon start.

The ground breaking ceremony for the projects is set at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 4, at San Gabriel ll Elementary school.

This is the Pantol to San Gabriel ‘farm to market road with bridge projects.

The opening remarks will be delivered by no less than Hon. Mayor Nina Jose-Quiambao in what could be her first public appearance since she was sworn into office as the first female mayor in the town.

Dr. Cezar T. Quiambao, the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) project proponent, and chairman of Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation, Inc., and Special Assistant to the office of the mayor, will also say a short message.

Expected to grace the groundbreaking ceremony are Regional Executive Director Nestor D. Domenden of the Department of Agriculture, Engr. Anthony Yanes, Engr. Mark Harry Pastor and Engr. Jeffry M. Ferrer.

The Department of Agriculture said that the Improvement of San Gabriel II with Bridge is the very first proposal of the Bayambang, Pangasinan under the PRDP.

The office of the Bayambang Mayor said the contract signing between LGU-Bayambang and Christian Ian Construction Corp, the winning contractor, was done on June 21.

The construction project dubbed ‘Improvement of San Gabriel Road with Bridge" is under the Philippine Rural Development Project of the DA and World Bank.

It was proposed to support the production and marketing of onions which are among the priority commodities of the Ilocos Region under the project.

Aside from onion, the opening of the road network will also benefit other farmers who plant rice, corn, mungbean, and bitter gourd.

The P126.478-million proposed FMR traverses Barangays San Gabriel II and Pantol where vast onion production areas are situated.

With a total road length of 1.87 kilometers and 61.5 linear meters of bridge, farmers within the direct influence area will have access to faster and cheaper transportation.

The original road proposal of Bayambang LGU includes an almost seven (7)-kilometer concrete pavement and three (3) bridges, however, the same was reduced due to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) jurisdiction over the operation and maintenance of the existing pavements.
