Malacañang has committed the timely submission of the proposed 2023 national budget to Congress next week.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said, in a press briefing on Friday, July 29, that the proposed budget was still undergoing "fine-tuning", but assured that it will be submitted to Congress on time.

The proposed national budget was the main agenda during the special Cabinet meeting presided over by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Friday morning.

"It's a special Cabinet meeting, ang pinag-usapan po namin tungkol sa (we talked about the) budget. Nagpresinta ang Department of Budget and Management at ipinakita yung proposed submission for Congress, may mga input galing sa iba't ibang kalihim para sa fine-tuning na ito ( The Department of Budget and Management presented the proposed submission for Congress, there were also input from other Secretaries for the fine-tuning of the budget)," Angeles said.

"Makakapagsumite ang department sa Kongreso (The department will be able to submit the proposed budget) on time by next week," she added.

According to the Press Secretary, the topmost priorities in the 2023 national budget remains the same as most of the budget was created by the previous administration.

Angeles further said that education remains among the top priorities in the proposed budget for next year.

"Topmost of course is still the rightsizing but the same priorities hold to the constitution requires the biggest budgetary allocation for education. So, it’s still the same. Hindi masyado nagbago (There's not much changes) from last year. I would like to remind you most of the budget was created by the last administration," the Press Secretary said.

The resumption of face-to-face classes this year was also part of the special Cabinet meeting, Angeles added.
