Most Filipinos trust US, Australia, Japan; distrust China, Russia — Pulse Asia
Majority of Filipinos have expressed trust toward the United States, Australia, and Japan, while they distrust China and Russia, a survey conducted by Pulse Asia revealed on Friday, July 29.
The survey, conducted from June 24 to 27 with 1,200 respondents, showed that 89 percent of them expressed trust toward the United States.
The 89 percent comprise 58 percent who said the Philippines should give a “great deal of trust” toward the United States, and 31 percent who said Filipinos should give a “fair amount of trust” to the US.
Seventy-nine percent of Filipinos have also expressed trust toward Australia (63 percent expressed a fair amount of trust, 15 percent expressed a great deal of trust), while 78 percent expressed trust toward Japan (55 percent versus 22 percent).
Filipinos have also expressed their trust toward these countries:
* Germany - 69 percent (60 percent expressed a fair amount of trust, 9 percent expressed a great deal of trust)
* South Korea - 65 percent (54 percent versus 10 percent)
* Great Britain/United Kingdom - 64 percent (53 percent versus 12 percent)
* Indonesia - 60 percent (55 percent versus 5 percent)
* India - 51 percent (48 percent versus 3 percent)
Meanwhile, in the case of Russia, Pulse Asia said that “nearly the same percentages of adults are of the view that the Philippines must extend either a fair amount or not too much trust in the said country (31 percent versus 36 percent).”
“While as far as China is concerned, virtually the same percentages say the Philippines should either trust China a little (36 percent) or not trust the said country at all (31 percent),” it noted.
Pulse Asia pointed out that, for the most part, public opinion on trust is essentially constant between September 2019 and June 2022.
“The only notable movements during this period are the: increase in the percentage of adults who say the Philippines should extend a fair amount of trust in Australia (+6 percentage points), China (+6 percentage points), and the United Kingdom (+7 percentage points); decline in the percentage of those saying the Philippines should not trust South Korea too much (-7 percentage points); and drop in the percentage of adults who opine that the Philippines should not trust the United Kingdom at all (-6 percentage points),” it said.
