
Vigan City was one the areas hit by the magnitude-7 temblor Wednesday, July 27.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Region 1 rolled out emergency employment in areas affected by the earthquake Wednesday, July 27.
Citing directive from Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma, DOLE Region 1 implemented TUPAD starting July 28.
In Ilocos Sur, 800 TUPAD workers were immediately hired to provide labor in their immediate barangays. They shall also engage in recycling projects.
They are from Vigan City and Lidlidda, Sugpon, Caoayan, San Emilio, Salcedo, Galimuyod, and Santa Cruz.
“They have started work today, July 28,” said Regional Director Atty. Evelyn R. Ramos. They shall engage in a 15-day work period which shall end on August 11.
The government has alotted P4,666,400 for TUPAD implementation in Ilocos Sur.
Each TUPAD workers will receive P370 per day or a total of P5,500 for the 15 days of work.
TUPAD will also be implemented in the other three provinces in the region, said DOLE-Region 1.
DOLE-Region 1 field offices are coordinating with local government units and other agencies for convergent assistance.
"The TUPAD implementation is only our preliminary action to proactively address the needs of affected communities. We shall accommodate more workers as we continue the profiling in the coming days," Ramos said.
