Taguig mayor supports Department of Disaster Resilience bill; to remain independent

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano supports the establishment of the Department of Disaster Resilience, which she and her husband, former Speaker and now Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, sponsored when they were representatives.

This, after a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Abra on July 27, affecting many parts of Luzon.

Senator Cayetano said that he will draft a letter to Malacanang to ask the bills for the creation of the department be certified as urgent.

In a statement, the Taguig City government said House Bill No. 13 or Department of Disaster Resilience Bill is a measure supported by former Speaker Cayetano and former congresswoman Cayetano as principal sponsors.

The bill aims to establish a department that will have a comprehensive plan to focus more on addressing calamities.

“Matapos ng napakalakas ng lindol kanina, inanunsyo ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na nais niyang isabatas ang panukalang ito. Agad namang tinalakay ito ni Senator Alan Peter Cayetano sa plenary session ng Senado ngayong araw upang imungkahi sa Pangulo na gawing urgent ang pagsasabatas ng nasabing panukala (After the strong earthquake earlier , President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that he wanted the bill to become a law. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano immediately discussed it during the plenary session of the Senator today to suggest to the President to make the passing of the measure as urgent),” the city government stated.

The city government added, “Katulad ng pasya ni Senator Alan at Mayor Lani, mananatili silang independent upang malayang masuportahan ang mga proyekto ng bagong administrasyon na sa tingin nila ay makabubuti sa bayan (Like the decision of Senator Alan and Mayor Lani, they will remain independent to freely support the projects of the new administration which they see as beneficial to the country).”

“Sa kabilang dako, malaya rin nilang maipahahayag ang pagtutol sa mga panukalang pinaniniwalaan nilang hindi makabubuti sa interes ng mga mamamayan (On the other hand, they can also freely announce their objection to proposals that they believe will not be good to the interest of the people),” it added.

It said, “Asahan ninyo na sa lokal na pamahalaan man o sa nasyonal, uunahin ang interes ng bayan at patuloy na magsusulong ng mga proyekto at programa para sa ikabubuti ng Taguig. (Rest assured that in the local government or national, the interest of the country will be prioritized and continue to advance projects and programs for the good of Taguig).”
