PNP to hold dialogues with school authorities on security vs campus violence

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be holding a series of dialogues with school officials in a bid to tighten security after the gun attack inside the Ateneo de Manila University that left three people dead and two others wounded.

PNP officer-in-charge Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr. said the dialogues will focus on preventive security measures against violent acts and crimes outside and inside the school premises for the safety of students, teachers and even parents and other school personnel.

“We plan to have a dialogue with various stakeholders, especially in schools. We will present our detailed security plans for the opening of classes and how to strictly implement procedures against unauthorized persons,” said Danao.

He said the move is timely with the planned resumption of face-to-face in November as declared by Vice President and Education Sec. Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Danao said that the PNP also takes heed to the call of the Vice President to emphasize awareness regarding gun violence.

The Quezon City Police District has already filed a string of criminal charges against Chao Tiao Yumol, the gunman that shot former Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay, her executive assistant and Ateneo security guard on Sunday, July 24.

The gun attack also wounded Furigay’s daughter who was supposed to graduate from the Ateneo Law School and a parent of one of the graduates.
