Habagat, LPA to bring cloudy skies, rain showers over most of PH

Several weather systems may bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers over most of the Philippines in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday evening, July 28.

PAGASA is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) located 1,080 kilometers (km) east of extreme northern Luzon. Although it remained less likely to develop into a tropical cyclone, the state weather bureau warned that the effects of this weather disturbance along with the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, may bring cloudy skies with rain showers over most of the country.

“Dahil sa pinagsamang epekto ng LPA at ng habagat ay makakaranas ng maulan na kalangitan na may kalat-kalat na mga pag-ulan, pagkidlat, at pagkulog ito areas ng Bicol region, Quezon, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, Romblon, Bataan, at Zambales (Due to the combined effects of the LPA and the southwest monsoon, areas of Bicol region, Quezon, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, Romblon, Bataan, and Zambales will experience rain showers, lightning, and thunderstorms) ,” said PAGASA weather specialist Patrick Del Mundo.

Residents of these areas were warned against possible flash floods and landslides that may occur during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, may experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms in the next 24-hour period.

Outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau is also monitoring a tropical depression. It was last spotted 1,825 kilometers (km) east of extreme northern Luzon and it remained less likely to enter PAR in the next 24 hours, said PAGASA.
