
The Department of Health (DOH) announced 923 new cases of Omicron subvariants in the country based on its latest genome sequencing run.
There were 890 cases of the BA.5 subvariant, said DOH Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary of Public Health Services Team Beverly Ho in a press briefing on Thursday, July 28.
“All regions detected the varian except Region 12 and BARMM, and nine ROFs (returning overseas Filipinos) tested positive for the BA.5 variant,” she said.
She said that 823 have already recovered, 31 are still undergoing isolation, and the status of 36 others is still being verified.
Meanwhile, 18 new cases of BA.4 subvariant were detected, said Ho. Seven were from the National Capital Region (NCR), six from the Bicol Region, two from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and one each from Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Calabarzon.
“Seventeen individuals are now tagged as recovered while the remaining case is still undergoing isolation,” said Ho.
Moreover, 15 more BA.2.12.1 cases were found. Five were from NCR, four from CAR, three from Calabarzon, one each from Ilocos Region and Mimaropa, and one ROF.
Ho said that 14 of them are now tagged as recovered while the other case is still in isolation.
With these developments, the total number of BA.5 in the country is now at 1,997, BA.4 at 71, and BA,2.12.1 at 154.
