DOH: Over 50 health facilities damaged by earthquake

The Department of Health (DOH) said more than 50 health facilities were damaged due to the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that recently hit the province of Abra and other areas.

The damaged facilities include eight hospitals, 28 rural health units, and 18 barangay health stations, said DOH Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary for Public Health Services Team Beverly Ho in a press briefing on Thursday, July 28.

She also noted that 272 people were injured, "including 19 hospital admissions." Also, four deaths were recorded, while four people are reported missing, said Ho.

The DOH official said that two medical teams from Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center and Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center "have been deployed to the sites."

Abra Provincial Hospital is also "providing aid and is being assisted by the DOH," said Ho.

"The DOH Central Office is on the ground with the local government units and has already extended its assistance by sending trucks carrying 20 tents, 200 cot beds, hygiene kits, medicines and other supplies," said Ho.
