Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III has ordered a one-week campaign against dengue as the number of cases has increased in the municipality.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), Pateros recorded a dengue attack rate of 5.43 per 10,000 population from Jan. 1 to July 23 this year.

This is the sixth highest attack rate among the 17 local government units in the National Capital Region.
Pateros, the smallest NCR LGU, tallied 38 dengue cases as of July 23 this year.
In an announcement, Ponce said, “Ako po ay nananawagan sa inyong lahat na tayo po ay kumilos at mag ingat dahil sa tumataas na kaso ng Dengue dito sa Kalakhang Maynila kasama ang ating bayan (I am calling on everyone for all of us to act and take care because of the rising number of dengue cases here in Metro Manila including our town).”
He said larvae trap was installed in stagnant water and misting was conducted in select areas to eliminate mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus.
“Subalit ito ay hindi sapat. Kailangan natin ang pakikiisa at sama-samang pagkilos upang tuluyan nating mapuksa ang mga lamok na may dala ng ‘dengue (But this is not enough. We need to have cooperation and collective action to finally eliminate dengue-carrying mosquitoes),” Ponce said.
From Aug. 1 to 6, the Pateros municipal government will launch the program “Isang Linggong Pagkilos ng Lahat ng Barangay Laban sa Dengue (One Week Action of all Barangays Against Dengue).”
Under this, a dengue forum will be held in barangays and health centers, and search and destroy operations will be implemented to eliminate breeding sites of mosquitoes. Misting, spraying, fogging and larviciding will also be done, and ovi/larva trap will be installed in select homes.
Ponce reminded the public of Pateros Municipal Ordinance 2008-005, or the Anti-Dengue Ordinance, which imposes penalty and punishment on every house, school or establishment that will be found to have breeding sites of mosquitoes within their areas.
