BACOLOD CITY -- A 60-year-old man died while his 17-year-old helper was injured after they were struck by a lightning in Purok Dalia, Barangay Puey, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, July 26.

The fatality was identified as Bernaldo Tapia of Barangay Maquiling, while the name of the wounded minor was withheld.
Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Sagay City police chief, said the two victims were on their way home when heavy rains occurred, prompting them to seek cover in a waiting shed.
Four others also took a shelter with them. However, a lightning suddenly struck, directly hitting Tapia, Indiape said.
Indiape said their companions at the waiting shed were unharmed.
Tapia died on the spot due to severe burns, while his helper suffered burns but is now stable in a hospital.
