Evacuations, damage assessment underway following Intensity 3 quake in Pasig City 


Safe evacuations and damage assessment of properties are underway, said Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto after an Intensity three earthquake was felt in various parts of Metro Manila on Wednesday morning, July 27.

The Pasig City Earthquake Intensity Meter of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) recorded an intensity three earthquake in the city at around 8:43 a.m.

Rapid damage assessments of buildings and structures in the city by the engineering department are ongoing.

Sotto said the City Hall building has been cleared for re-entry as of around 9 a.m.

According to the city's Public Information Office (PIO), the Pasig City Hall Main Building, Old BIR Building, Pasig City Sports Center, Tanghalang Pasigueño, Pasig City Revolving Tower, and Pasig City Mega Market are also cleared for re-entry as of 10:20 a.m.

The local government is waiting for reports from other buildings.

Sotto urged citizens to “stay calm and follow instructions from the city’s DRRMO.”

A 7.3 magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of Luzon, as well as Metro Manila, at 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27. The quake's magnitude was later downgraded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to 7.0. Its epicenter was located northeast of Lagangilang, Abra.
