Dengue cases in Western Visayas approach 7,000


ILOILO CITY – Dengue cases in Western Visayas are approaching almost 7,000.

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 674 new dengue cases from July 10 to 16, bringing the total to 6,856 since January 1.

Negros Occidental recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 2,445 and 11 deaths. The province recorded 230 new cases and one death from July 10 to 16.

Antique was second with 1,731 and six deaths. From July 10 to 16, it had 118 new cases and two fatalities.

Bacolod City is third with 398 cases with six deaths. Forty-one new cases and fatality were recorded in the city from July 10 to 16.

The regional capital of Iloilo City had 293 dengue cases with 11 deaths. For July 10 to 16, it had 48 new cases with one death.

Aklan had 291 cases and from July 10 to 16, 29 new cases and two deaths. Guimaras had 100 cases and 12 new ones from July 10 to 16.

Antique has declared a state of calamity due to dengue.

The DOH-Region 6 reiterated to local government units (LGUs) in the six provinces and two highly urbanized cities to in Western Visayas to boost their anti-dengue programs.
