2,727 new Covid-19 infections recorded, bringing active cases to over 27,000

The number of active Covid-19 cases in the Philippines is at 27,754 after 2,727 new infections were recorded on Wednesday, July 27.

In the recent 14 days, Metro Manila recorded 12,832 cases, followed by Calabarzon with 8,217, Central Luzon with 3,745, Western Visayas with 2,437, and Central Visayas with 1,429.

Since 2020, the Philippines has already recorded a total of 3,760,488 cases, including 3,672,040 recoveries, and 60,694 deaths.

The DOH warned the public that the country may see up to 19,000 Covid-19 cases daily by the end of August.

“Based on our latest projections and our current case trends, the number of detected cases at the national level are projected to be on a continuous uptrend, with an estimated 19,306 cases reported daily by August 31,” the DOH said in a statement on Tuesday, July 26.

“However, with the improvement of vaccination and booster rates and MPHS (minimum public health standards) compliance, case increase may be slower and more controlled at about 6,194 to 8,346 cases by the end of August,” it added.

The DOH reminded the public to stay vigilant— follow the health protocols and complete their Covid-19 vaccination.

“While we do consider Covid-19 case numbers in determining an area's alert level, we would like to emphasize the larger focus we have on admission and hospital utilization rates. With the advances in Covid-19 treatment and the availability of vaccines to combat severe and critical disease, as well as deaths, we now have the capability to reduce the vulnerable population and keep hospital utilization and fatalities to a minimum,” it said.

“The Department of Health reiterates the need to continue wearing of best-fitting face masks, isolating and informing our close contacts when sick, doubling-up protection via vaccines, and ensuring good airflow to control the spread of the virus. If such factors will be adhered to and implemented by ourselves immediately, a decline in cases may be observed sooner,” it added.
