Vatican declares Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne in Taguig a minor basilica

The Diocese of Pasig will now have its first minor basilica.

This, after the Vatican approved the request of the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne in Taguig City for the title.

No less than Pasig Bishop Mylo Vergara announced the good news in a Mass at the said Shrine on Tuesday, July 26.

"The Holy See approved already our request of a decree granting the title of a minor basilica to the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne. Thanks be to God!" he said.

CBCP News earlier explained that the title is given to churches around the world to denote a particular importance in liturgical and pastoral life and a close bond with the Pope.

Vergara asked those who will prepare for the solemn proclamation to catechize the whole community as regards to the significance and importance of the title minor basilica.

He also asked that everyone be involved in the preparations for the important occasion.

"This is a big blessing to us. This will be the first basilica of the Diocese of Pasig. As always, let me assure you of my sincere and heartfelt support and prayers," said Vergara.

Meanwhile, the Parish Church of Saint Dominic in the City of San Carlos in the Archdiocese of Lingayen Dagupan was also bestowed the title minor basilica.

The archdiocese posted the news in their Facebook page Tuesday.

It added that the date for the liturgical rites for the proclamation of the new minor basilica will be announced in due time.
