President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos wants more international airports in the Philippines to decongest the Manila airport and help boost tourism.

Recognizing that aside from economic development, tourism is also key in job creation, Marcos outlined his plans to boost the country's tourism industry, which is one of the most hit industries at the height of the pandemic, during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 25.
"Tourism is not only an important economic development tool but the abundance of opportunities that the sector creates in terms of regular employment and even job creation at the grassroots level is undeniable," Marcos said
"To boost our tourism industry, we will first and foremost make basic developments such as road improvements for easier access to tourism spots. We will also upgrade our airports and create more international airports to help decongest the bottleneck in the Manila Airport," Marcos added.
The President said his administration will work on providing convenience to travelers while they go around the country, including remote areas "to help promote undiscovered tourist spots."
He directed the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to join hands in making the plan possible.
