DILG-Central Luzon urges mayors to be champions of good governance
By Chito Chavez
The Department of the Interior and Local Government-Region 3 (DILG-R3) urged mayors in Central Luzon to be models of good governance amid calls to fight against corruption in the government.
DILG Central Luzon Director Karl Caesar Rimando said mayors should also initiate programs and projects that would benefit their constituents, especially amid the adverse economic effects of both the pandemic and inflation.
Early this month, the DILG Central Luzon Office hosted the Newly Elected Officials (NEO) Orientation Course: Primed Leaders for Renewed Local Governance for the newly-minted and re-elected municipal mayors hailing from Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog CALABARZON and Region 4-B.
The activity is part of the ‘2nd component: Jumpstarting Local Governance’ of the NEO program which aims to provide a foundational and critical understanding of the organizational, political, and constitutional environment of public service at the local level.
DILG Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ C. Abalos, Jr. stressed the importance of the local government unit (LGU) supervision role of the DILG and how the agency can help the newly-minted and comebacking municipal mayors “in efficiently and effectively performing their roles and responsibilities.’’
This DILG – Local Government Academy (LGA) initiated event was made possible by partnering with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) and the Local Governance Regional Resource Centers (LGRRCs) of DILG Central Luzon, DILG CALABARZON, and DILG MIMAROPA.
