NCR dengue cases rise to 7,451; QC, Malabon still with highest tally, attack rate

The number of dengue cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) soared to more than 7,000 this year with over 1,300 new cases added in the last two weeks.

Data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that 7,451 dengue cases were recorded in the NCR from Jan. 1 to July 23 this year, an increase of 1,372 cases since July 9 when NCR tallied 6,079 cases.

The attack rate in the NCR is 5.28 per 10,000 people based on the region’s population of 14.11 million.

Based on the number of dengue cases among the 17 local government units (LGU) in the NCR, Quezon City, the most populous in the region, is still No. 1 with 1,547 cases.

It was followed by Caloocan with 955 dengue cases; Manila, 815; Taguig, 804; Valenzuela, 726; Malabon, 709; Pasig, 344; Makati, 253; Paranaque, 246; Marikina, 228; Las Pinas, 196; Navotas, 166; Mandaluyong, 133; Muntinlupa, 125; Pasay, 96; San Juan, 70; and Pateros, the smallest LGU in NCR, 38.

Based on attack rate or the number of cases over the total population for each LGU, Malabon is still No. 1 with 17.69 per 10,000 population followed by Valenzuela, 10.67; Taguig, 9.11; Navotas, 6.07; Caloocan, 5.5; Pateros, 5.43; San Juan, 5.23; Quezon City, 4.81; Marikina, 4.61; Manila, 4.18; Pasig, 4.15; Makati, 3.06; Paranaque, 3.37; Mandaluyong, 3.14; Las Pinas, 3.04; Muntinlupa, 2.26; and Pasay, 2.1.
