Cagayan de Oro readies Covid isolation facilities anew

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) has prepared isolation facilities to ensure that the city government can accommodate all infected individuals amid the increasing number of active Covid-19 cases here.

CHO head Dr. Rachel Dilla said they will open a new City Isolation Unit (CIU) as the two existing temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMFs) here are almost full.

“As the need arises, we will open those areas accredited by the DOH. Two of the TTMFs are almost full, so we open a new CIU,” Dilla said Monday, July 25.

As of July 24, this city has 75 active Covid-19 cases, from 59 last July 21.

Fifty-seven are currently admitted in TTMFs and 18 in various hospitals.

CHO medical officer Dr. Teodoro Yu Jr., in a press briefing Monday, reported 15 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 26,100, with 25,081 recoveries and 944 deaths.

Apart from one new CIU that will open, Dilla also said that they will prepare two standby CIUs as part of their contingency plan for possible resurgence of cases.

“We will engage another two standby CIUs in case we have a surge. So it's expandable, depending on the need,” Dilla said.

“Hinaot unta nga dili unta mudaghan. Kay murag nalipay nata nga medyo anaa natay (We hope that it will not rise (the Covid-19 case). Because we are already happy that we have the freedom to conduct face to face,” she added.

The increase in Covid-19 also reflected in the city’s alert level system indicators.

Data presented by CHO, based on FASSSTER Philippines, showed that the city’s average daily attack rate has increased to 1.72 as of July 24 from 1.02 July 17. The two-week growth rate is now at 165 percent from 100 percent and the total bed utilization rate is now at 9.6 percent from nine percent on July 17.

However, despite the slight increase, Yu said the city’s alert level system indicators remain at low risk classification.

Dilla and Yu urged residents to continuously adhere to minimum public health standards against Covid-19 despite the eased restrictions.

Dr. Ina Grace Chiu, city’s Covid-19 vaccination coordinator, urged the residents to get vaccinated as their additional protection against the virus.
