“Such an act of violence should have no place in our society, especially in a place of learning — which is supposed to be considered a safe space for everyone, for the students mainly,” the VP said in a statement released by her spokesperson Reynold Munsayac.

Furigay was at the university to attend the Ateneo Law School graduation of her daughter, Hannah Furigay, who was wounded during the shooting incident.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) named the two other fatalities as Jeneven Bandiola and Victor George Capistrano.

Police Brig. Gen. Remus Medina, director of the QCPD, said two others were injured in the gun attack.

He identified the gunman as Dr. Chao Yumol, also a native of Lamitan City.

The Vice President conveyed her deepest condolences with the victims’ families.

She also urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) “to address gun violence in the country.”

Duterte believes that “consistent operations against illegal firearms” may be one of the effective measures against gun violence in the country.
