Police probe death of mechanic after drinking binge in Tuguegarao City

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old mechanic after a drinking binge here over the weekend.

The victim’s mother told police that her son arrived at their house from work at 10 p.m. Friday, July 22, under the influence of liquor.

She told police that her son later went to bed and talked to somebody on his cellphone.

At around 6:20 a.m. Saturday, July 23, she tried to wake up her son but to no avail.

She noticed a cup near her son and saw an empty sachet of insecticide on a chair.

Relatives and neighbors suspect that he could have mistaken the insecticide for coffee due to his drunken state.

“Dahil lasing at inaantok na, nagkape muna siguro pero baka iba naman na sachet ang binuhos niya na maaaring iyon ang nagiging cause ng pagkamatay (He was drunk and sleepy and might have mistaken the insecticide for coffee and that is maybe why he died),” a neighbor said.

The Tuguegarao City Police Station has requested the assistance of the Tuguegarao City Forensic Unit to process the scene.

The assistance of the City Health Office was also requested for post-mortem examination of the cadaver of the victim to determine the cause of death, case officer Police Staff Sgt. Romel G. Agcaoili said.
