Darryl Yap on Joel Lamangan: 'Hindi siya makakarinig sa akin ng panlalait'

Despite criticisms of his upcoming movie from multi-awarded director Joel Lamangan, young director Darryl Yap said that he still has high respect for him.

Darryl, director of the controversial movie "Maid In Malacanang," said that Joel should not be worried about him.

"Hindi siya makakarinig sa akin ng pangmamaliit, dahil sino ba ako kumpara sa kanya—sana maalala niya na Joel Lamangan na siya, hindi siya dapat nababahala sa isang Darryl Yap lang," said Darryl, when sought to comment on the negative reaction of Joel on his fllm, during an interview on TV5 recently.

Darryl said that he respects Joel a lot inspite of the differences in points of view.

"Malaki ang respeto ko kay Direk Joel, maaaring magkaiba kami ng perspektibo tungkol sa mga bagay-bagay pero nasa iisang industriya kami—kung gagantihan ko rin ng pagmamataas ang mga sinabi niya, magmumukhang nakikipag-away ako sa isa sa mga haligi ng industriya," he said.

Darryl corrected the impression of Joel who allegedly said that the money used in producing "Maid In Malacanang" came from government sources.

"Pero mainam rin na paalalahanan siya na, hindi lang siya ang anak ng Diyos at ng Bayan, hindi lang siya ang may kwento at hindi lang ang mga kwento nya ang may kwenta. Sinabi pa niya na ang ginamit na pagpoproduce ng pelikula ay pera ng taumbayan, VIVA ang nagproduce nito— kung saan dun din sya gumawa at patuloy na gumagawa ng pelikula," he added.

Darryl added: "Kung tunay nga ang kanyang kumbulsyon at paghihimagsik; bilang isa sa mga mataas na Direktor, yayain nya ang mga nagsasabing “katarantaduhan” ang pelikula ko at wag silang magtrabaho sa Viva—kasi baka pera ng taumbayan yan, nakakahiya naman sa mga prinsipyo nila. yan eh, kung talagang yan ang ipinaglalaban at paninindigan niya yung mga sinabi niya kanina."

Joel has earlier vowed to produce a film to counter Darryl's "Maid In Malacanang," a dramedy about the last 72 hours of the Marcoses in Malacanang before they fled to Hawaii in 1986.

"Hahanap lang tayo ng producer. Pag pinag-uusapan po pera, napakahirap, lalo na pulitika ang iyong sasabihin. Maraming ayaw po, iyon ang totoo," said the veteran director, whose upcoming film "Biyak" will also be shown in the coming weeks.

"Maid In Malacanang" will be shown in cinemas on Aug. 3.
