Coast Guard men in Northeastern Luzon update skills in 5-day training

The training was facilitated by the Special Operations Unit-Northeastern Luzon together with the CGMed Clinic-Northeastern Luzon.
The primary objective of the training is to ensure the competence of personnel, particularly in responding to any-water related incidents and disasters, which is essential in ensuring safety of life and property at sea.
Three officers and 49 non-officers from the district and stations participated in the training from July 11 to 15 in Barangay San Vicente, Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
They were taught water search and rescue, rubber boat operation and maintenance, basic life support training, and rubber boat carrying and capsizing and recovery, and participated in the one-mile qualification swim.
Their expertise came in handy last July 13 when
personnel of Coast Guard Station Calayan responded to a maritime incident involving two distressed motorbancas in the sea off Calayan, Cagayan. They rescued more than 20 passengers and crew of the distressed motorbancas.
