ADMU: There is no acceptable reason for violence

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), hours after the shooting incident at Aretè, Loyola Heights campus on Sunday, July 24, extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, stressing that there is “no acceptable reason” for violence.

“ extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. There is no acceptable reason for violence. We hope and pray that justice will be swiftly served,” ADMU’s statement read.

The University, in an earlier statement, announced the cancellation of the Commencement Exercises of the ADMU School of Law as the campus was placed on lockdown.

“It has robbed the members of the Law School class of 2022 of what was supposed to be a joyous celebration. The University and the Law School administration are assisting students, staff, and guests who are dealing with trauma from the incident,” it furthered.

Police Brigadier General Remus Medina, director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), confirmed that three people were killed, while two others have been injured due to the gun attack. The suspect, later identified by Medina as Dr. Chao Yumol, 38, of Lamitan, is now in the custody of the QCPD.

Meanwhile, ADMU stressed that the Loyola Heights Campus was immediately secured. It likewise assured the public that its campuses are safe.

“We appeal to the public to be careful in spreading unconfirmed information and rumors surrounding this incident,” it added.
