Tiger talk: Villanueva says Bal David is most fit to coach UST hoops squad
Bal David is the most fit and suitable person for coaching the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigers amid the enormous hurdles that currently face the college basketball team.
‘’And what better way to make a comeback and make UST Tigers the force to reckon with once more than with Bal David at its helm!" Senator Joel Villanueva, a former US Tigers basketball player, said.
Villanueva, in a statement, said: ‘’In 1995, Bal David and I played for the UST Tigers Basketball Team that fought against La Salle for the UAAP championship. I distinctly remember that during the dying seconds of Game 3 Finals at the Cuneta Astrodome, La Salle was leading with one point. But Bal David’s 2 clutch freethrows sealed the Growling Tigers’ back-to-back UAAP men’s basketball championship.
‘’It was a defining moment for Bal David as a basketball player. Years of hard work, discipline, and consistently striving to perfect his craft shaped his professional career in the PBA," he said.
‘’I can attest to this because I have known Bal for a long time. We played together in high school and then again in College for three years. I have seen with my own eyes how the difficulties of life transformed him into the person and the basketball player that he is.
‘'I can’t wait to see him coach and use his decades of experience in the PBA to rebuild our team. I guess I speak for all Thomasians. We are all excited to see 'The Flash', and the legend, the former point guard of Barangay Ginebra, lead the Growling Tigers to the top," the senator said.
