Street cleaner fatally run over by truck in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – A 70-year-old street cleaner died after she was hit and run over by a trailer truck in Purok Jalandon, Barangay 6 here Thursday, July 21.

Police identified the victim as Rosalinda Filiu of Barangay 6.

Police Corporal Erhex Branyl Tan, traffic investigator of the Police Station 2, said Filiu crossed the street and hid beside the truck.

Truck driver Leo Barona, 32, of Murcia, Negros Occidental, failed to see the victim and moved the truck forward.

Barona stopped when he heard a loud thud. He went down to check and saw the victim lying on the ground.

Half of her body was run over by the vehicle, Tan said.

The victim was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Tan said the victim’s family and the truck driver had an initial settlement after the truck owner assured the family of financial assistance for the victim’s burial.
