PH Red Cross provides over 40% of country's blood requirements for dengue patients
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said on Saturday, July 23, that the organization has provided over 40 percent of the country’s blood requirement for dengue cases this year.

"The PRC collects 15,000 to 20,000 blood units a day from donors, so it always has a supply in its blood banks," said PRC.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon assured the public that PRC is capable to provide the needed blood for dengue patients who will need a blood transfusion.
National Blood Donors’ Month is being celebrated in July.
Gordon also emphasized that blood donation is not "transactional", meaning the donation is voluntary, without payment, and donors cannot assert to be given blood right away when the time comes that they will be the one needing it.
"If there is an armed conflict, for example, a soldier need not request for blood, because the PRC will send blood, Gordon added," he added.
Gordon reiterated the importance of donating blood and said that it is beneficial for the donor's body.
"Syempre magre-regenerate ‘yung cells kapag nagbigay ka ng dugo (The cells will regenarate once you donated blood)," he said.
