MMDA enforcers to guard EDSA-Timog flyover vs heavy trucks

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy traffic personnel at the entry points of the EDSA-Timog flyover in Quezon City to ensure that no trucks will use both the southbound and the northbound lanes.

The southbound lane of the flyover was reopened to motorists at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, after almost one month of repair.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and MMDA Officer-in-Charge Baltazar Melgar inspected the flyover before it was reopened.

DPWH earlier conducted a thorough structural assessment to determine the degree of damage of the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover after large cracks and potholes were observed.

To ensure the resilience of this flyover which was built in 1992, non-destructive testing of concrete pavement were performed for the replacement of deck slabs at span 6 between girder 2 and 3 and span 15 between girder 3 and 4.

The project also covers the repair of low and high chainage approaches of the southbound flyover.

Melgar said the deployment of traffic personnel in the area will protect the flyover from trucks which may damage the flyover anew.
