The Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has increased to 16 percent, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said on Friday, July 22.

The region’s positivity rate—the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who were tested for Covid-19—was at 14.6 percent on July 20.

“ daily positivity rate in the NCR (National Capital Region) up to 16 percent and still rising,” David said in a tweet on Friday evening.

David on Friday morning said the cause of the current trends is not yet clear.

On July 16, the group initially projected the peak of the Covid wave driven by the Omicron subvariants within the week.

However, David pointed out that the “one-week growth rate did decrease to 15 percent, while ADAR (average daily attack rate) is now at 6.43 per day per 100,000 , as of July 22.”

The ADAR or incidence rate refers to the number of new daily cases per 100,000 population.

David also noted that health care utilization in Metro Manila was at 34 percent, while ICU or intensive care unit occupancy was at 26 percent—both are still below the “concerning” level of 50 percent.
