The House of Representatives will prohibit the wearing of clothes bearing "political messages" during President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 25.

This directive was contained in a memorandum issued and signed by House Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza.
“Wearing of clothes with political messages shall not be allowed,” read the memorandum, which was dated July 20, 2022.
It didn't give a definition as to what constituted a "political message".
"All attendees at the plenary hall and on video conference platforms shall wear Barong Filipino (for gentlemen), Filipiniana dress (for ladies) or appropriate business attire," the memo added.
President Marcos's SONA will begin at around 4 p.m. He will deliver it in person at the newly-renovated plenary hall of the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, which is essentially the congressmen or House members' home turf.
Senators will also be on hand at Batasang Pambansa for the annual speech.
