Go welcomes review of K-12 program

Senator Christopher Lawrence“Bong” Go has welcomed the proposal to review the current K–12 program being implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd), noting that it has both advantages and disadvantages.

“I welcome any review of the existing K-12 program. Let us make a good review as there are several disadvantages as well as advantages in this K-12 especially now that changes have taken place due to the pandemic,” Go, chairman of the Senate Health and Demography Committee, said.

The senator from Davao said the country must adjust to the new normal and that the education system must be capable of meeting the demands of the post-pandemic global economy.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has already given instructions to review the program according to Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHeD) has also previously stated that it is interested in reviewing the effectiveness of the program, saying that data is already available for evaluation.

Go has been advocating for the improvement of the country’s education system.

He co-authored the bill that became Republic Act (RA) 11510, which institutionalized the Alternative Learning System and improved the delivery of basic education to the underserved and disadvantaged.

The law provides the support lacking for typically underrepresented students, such as indigenous students, students from less privileged backgrounds, and students with physical and learning disabilities.

During his visits to communities in crisis, Go distributed phablets to students in order to assist them in the blended learning program implemented in schools.
