Caloocan gov't holds urban gardening seminar in line with recovery program

The Caloocan City government conducted an urban gardening seminar in Barangay 187 to teach residents how to grow their own food sources at their homes amid the rising prices of basic commodities in the country.

The city government said that it launched the project with the help of the Caloocan Health Department and Parks Development and Administration Services to address the social impact of food scarcity and lack of resources in the country's urban areas. It will also be conducted in the city's different communities.

It is part of the city's recovery programs that include projects for livelihood, local recruitment activities, and joint-partnerships with the national government.

It aims to help boost Caloocan 's economic activity and to provide sustainable opportunities to the citizens.

“Itong programs ng pamahalaan ay para matulungan kayong magkaroon ng pagkukuhaan ng maihahain mula sa sarili niyong bakuran. Sa gitna ng krisis, batid natin kung gaano kahirap na umasa sa ayuda o mangutang para lang maitawid ang ating mga pangangailangan (These programs of the government aim to help you get food from your own backyard. Amid the crisis, we know how difficult it is to rely on aid or to borrow money just to sustain our needs)," Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan said.

He said that the local government is keen on finding new methods to help the residents.

“Isang bahagi lang po ito ng ating mga programa. Ating sinusolusyunan ang pagkukunan ng pagkain, kasabay ang paglalaan ng oportunidad para sa lahat. Kung kakayanin, sana’y maparami at mapalago niyo ang mga ibinigay nating panimula at matulungan niyo rin ang inyong mga kapitbahay o sinumang nangangailangan. Kung may sosobra, pagmalasakitan niyo rin sana sila (This is just a part of our programs. We are solving food sourcing while giving opportunities to all. If possible, I hope you will be able to multiply and grow what we have given you, and also to help your neighbors or those who are in need. If there is more than enough, I hope you'll be concerned about them too)," the mayor said.
