Vice President Sara Duterte has visited typhoon-stricken Bohol to personally check on the damage typhoon Odette left in the province last year.

Duterte, also the Education Secretary, on Friday, July 22, went to check on the schools ravaged by the typhoon when it hit the province in December 2021.

She met with the school officials of Clarin National School of Fisheries, which was among the heavily affected facilities during the typhoon, to discuss the assistance the school and its teachers' needs.

"Bumisita po tayo ngayong araw sa Bohol upang personal na makita ang mga paaralan na sinalanta ng Bagyong Odette noong nakaraang taon (We visited Bohol to personally see the schools damages by typhoon Odette last year)," Duterte said.

The Education chief proposed the resumption of face-to-face classes this year. She also intends to develop a plan that will consider a blended model of instruction for specific areas and circumstances in the country.

Part of her visit to Bohol was to grace the province's celebration of its 168th founding anniversary, or Bohol Day, where she encouraged the Boholanos to support the government in its efforts for recovery.

"Patuloy po nating suportahan ang ating gobyerno at maging mas masigasig sana tayo sa pagpapakita ng ating pagmamahal sa ating bansa at kapwa Filipino (Let us continue supporting our government and be more determined in showing our love for our country and fellowmen)," the Vice President said in her remark.

"I ask the Boholanos' support as the new administration makes decisions in our best interests," she also said.

The Vice President also praised the Boholanos for their united efforts to bring the province back from the devastation of the typhoon.

“Pinaagi sa inyong pagkahiusa, walay duha-duha nga maabot gayud ang adlaw, nga makita ninyo ang bunga sa inyong paningkamot (Through your unity, there is no doubt that the day will come, when you will see the fruit of your efforts),” she said.

"I hope that Bohol's collective harmony and your faith that overcomes challenges will spread across the country and our OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) around the world," she added.

The annual celebration of Bohol Day commemorates the "Sandugo," a historical event of a treaty of friendship between Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna.
