VP Duterte to wear tribal dress at SONA

Vice President Sara Duterte will ditch the traditional wearing of Filipiñana when she attends the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Marcos on Monday, July 25.

In a statement on Friday night, her spokesman, Reynold Munsayac, said Duterte will wear an outfit from the Bagobo Tagabawa tribe of her hometown Davao City.

She will borrow a traditional dress from Bae Sheirelle Antonio, Deputy Mayor of the Tagabawa tribe of Davao City, since an entire ensemble would take over a month to be made by tribal artisans.

It "will not make it on time for Monday's SONA," Munsayac explained.

Government officials attending SONAs traditionally sport their outfits during the annual gathering, with some using it to make a political statement. Female officials and guests usually come in their best gowns.
