Police ordered to observe maximum tolerance in SONA rallies in Central Visayas
CEBU CITY – The chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) has ordered unit commanders to observe maximum tolerance in protest actions in Central Visayas in the first State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday, July 25.
Police Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega said the PRO 7 has done needed preparations to prevent untoward incidents from happening during the President’s SONA.
“It is important to plan and prepare contingency measures in areas where protest actions are to be staged and ensure the safety of the public and maintenance of peace and order in Central Visayas,” Vega said.
Vega also directed unit commanders to heighten security preparations as various cause-oriented groups are expected to conduct simultaneous protest actions nationwide.
Aside from enforcing maximum tolerance, the regional police chief also reminded personnel to ensure swift response in addressing various civil disturbance situations.
Additional police personnel from the regional headquarters and augmentation troops will be placed on standby for immediate deployment when the need arises.
Vega appealed to the public to help authorities maintain peace by reporting any suspicious activity in their areas.
“Police hotline numbers are posted online and in strategic locations for the public to contact for assistance. Let us be vigilant and ensure the successful and peaceful conduct of the first SONA of the President,” Vega said.
