New Covid-19 cases rise above 3,000 anew

More than 3,000 new Covid-19 cases were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, July 22.

A total of 3,389 new patients with Covid-19 have been recorded, based on the DOH's Covid-19 tracker.

With this, active cases nationwide rose to 24,478.

In the past 14 days, the majority of the new cases were recorded in the National Capital Region with 11,112 infections. Calabarzon came in second with 6,592, followed by Central Luzon with 3,007, Western Visayas with 2,309, and Central Visayas with 1,222.

The country's cumulative caseload is now at 3,745,375. Of this total, 3,660,241 were recoveries, while 60,656 were deaths.

The DOH is expecting that the upward trend of Covid-19 cases in the country will still continue, said DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire In a press briefing on Wednesday, July 20.

Marikina visit

Vergeire on Friday visited Marikina City to encourage more people to complete their Covid-19 vaccination, especially the booster shots.

The DOH said that Marikina City has fully vaccinated 100 percent of their target population, and has attained a coverage of 71.12 percent for the first booster.

"I once again urge all members of the eligible population here in Marikina City to get their first and second booster shots done. Let us all put our trust in the science and protection behind our vaccines as part of our arsenal in the fight against Covid-19,” she said.

“Through sustained collaboration and partnership, we can fulfill the promises of the Universal Health Care and overcome the COVID-19 pandemic,” she added.
