Joel Lamangan on 'revisionist' film: 'Dapat hindi natin ito palagpasin'

Veteran director Joel Lamangan is not at all happy with Darryl Yap’s “Maid in Malacañang.”

He described it as “Puro kahunyanguhan, puro katarantaduhan...dapat hindi ito palagpasin."

He urged other artists, creatives: "Dapat lahat ng nasa sining magsilbi sa interes ng ating mga mamamayan. Huwag tayong maging kasali sa nagtatakip ng katotohanan. Ayokong dumating ang panahon na mabura ang ating mga pinaghirapan."

Joel said this at the launch of “Never Again, Never Forget” ML50 Thursday, meant to recall the 50th anniversary of the declaration of martial law in 1972.

Note the director was among those jailed during the era.

"Nakita ko noong panahon namin kung papaano sinasalamin ang lahat ng katarantaduhang ginagawa ng rehimeng Marcos,” he recalled. 

All that said, he aims to watch “Maid In Malacañang.”

“Manonood ako. Titingnan ko yung katarantaduhan na ginawa nila at sinasabi nila. At sasabihin ko sa mga tao na hindi totoo ang lahat ng ito at gagawa ako ng pelikula laban dito.”

Darryl has since issued a reaction via Facebook.

He wrote, “Sino ba naman si Direk Darryl kumpara kay Direk Joel Lamangan, all support po kami sa gagawin nyong pelikula!”

He went on, “Malaki ang respeto ko kay Direk Joel, maaaring magkaiba kami ng perspektibo tungkol sa mga bagay-bagay pero nasa iisang industriya kami— kung gagantihan ko rin ng pagmamataas ang mga sinabi niya, magmumukhang nakikipag-away ako sa isa sa mga haligi ng industriya.”

But he didn’t stop there.

He added, “Pero mainam rin na paalalahanan siya na, hindi lang siya ang anak ng Diyos at ng Bayan, hindi lang siya ang may kwento at hindi lang ang mga kwento nya ang may kwenta.”
