OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David on Friday, July 22, noted that Metro Manila’s daily Covid-19 positivity rate is “increasing again,” just three days after the central region registered lower daily positivity rates.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who were tested for Covid-19.

“A few days ago, we reported that the daily positivity rate in the NCR (National Capital Region) may have peaked. This was based on the data we obtained from testing laboratories, care of the Department of Health. On July 15, the daily positivity rate reached 14 percent, and the next three days showed lower daily positivity rates,” David said in a tweet.

“However, the positivity rate jumped on July 19, and now shows an increasing trend, which hit 14.6 percent on July 20,” he said.

David pointed out that it is not clear what is causing the change in current trends.

“It is not yet clear what is driving this change in trends. It is also not clear at this time when the peak will be reached in the NCR,” he said.

Due to the increasing positivity rate, David projected around 3,000 fresh cases nationwide, which include about 1,100 new cases in Metro Manila on July 22.

David warned that infections are also rising in many parts of the country, not only in Metro Manila.

“The new subvariants are immune evasive. We strongly advise the public to observe caution,” he said.
