Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has urged the government to increase its attention to disability prevention and look into the welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Go made the call as the country observes Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week every third week of July.

As head of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go said it is imperative for the government to provide for the needs of PWDs especially during this pandemic.

“I look forward to our continued efforts to support our fellow Filipinos who may have disabilities but are equally capable of contributing to nation-building and leading the same lives as everyone else as we observe the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week,” said Go.

The senator reassured the Filipino people that he would continue to fight for the welfare of PWDs by expanding their access to better healthcare services and promoting inclusivity through policies and measures that promote equal opportunities for everyone.

These include the Malasakit Centers program, a one-stop shop where four government agencies are lodged, to enable them to help with the medical expenses of all patients, whether in patient or outpatient.

“Pinadali ng Malasakit Center para sa lahat ang medical assistance. Wala nang linya, at wala na ring mahabang proseso (The Malasakit Center has made it easier fot hem to avail of medical assistance. No more lines and no more long processes),” he pointed out.

“Kaya para sa aking mga kababayan, lalo na ang mga PWDs, hindi na kayo mahihirapan pang pumunta sa ospital para magpacheck-up dahil nariyan na ang serbisyong makatao at maka-Pilipino (So four our people, especially PWDs, you won’t have a hard time going to hospitals for a check up because there is already a public service that is efficient and pro-Filipino),” he stressed.

“Let us work together to further improve the system and provide our fellow Filipinos, especially the PWDs, the equity and prosperity in living,” Go reiterated.
