Senator Sonny Angara on Thursday said he is looking forward to hearing in detail President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s roadmap for the country for the next six years when he delivers his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 25.

In particular, Angara said he wants to hear of Marcos Jr.’s plans on how to work hand-in-hand with the private sector.

Angara pointed out that during his inaugural speech, many were glad to hear Marcos Jr. say that he wants to see the private sector as a staunch partner of the government.

“Kaya, maraming naghihintay kung paano niyang maisasakatuparan itong tema o pilosopiya niya at mabigyan ng pag-asa ang ating mga kababayan dito sa darating na anim na taon (That’s why many are waiting how he will be able to realize this theme or philosophy and give our fellowmen hope in the next six years),” Angara said in a statement.

Angara noted that after two years of little to no activity in practically all sectors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the economy has started to open up once more.

Though many businesses have resumed operations, a lot more are still unable to resume due to the losses incurred over the two year period.

Nevertheless, Angara said all sectors would require some assistance to get back on their feet and resume their normal activities at this point in time.

He cited for instance, the education sector which took a hit when face-to-face classes were suspended in early 2020, and led to the closure of many schools, some permanently.

Just like the rest of the Filipino people, Angara said he too wants to listen to the plans of the President on the recovery of the economy and addressing the various concerns of the different sectors affected by the pandemic.

“Kung paano mapapaganda ang serbisyo ng pamahalaan pagdating sa kalusugan, sa edukasyon, paano makalikha ng trabaho—yan ang gustong marinig ng ating mga kababayan sa darating na SONA ni President BBM (How the government can improve its services in terms of health, education, and job creation—those are the things our people want to hear from PBBM’s SONA),” Angara said.

Angara said it is good to hear President Marcos saying he wants to realize the country’s potential and how the government can be a partner of the private sector.

“Katulong ng negosyante ang gobyerno. Gagawing mas madali imbes na pahihirapan ang kanilang buhay (businesses will have a partner in government. The government can make it easy for them),” Angara said.

“Yung mga estudyante, magsasaka at iba pang nangangailangan ng agarang tulong ay bibigyan ng pansin ng gobyerno. Yan ang gusto kong ipagpatuloy o marinig ang detalye sa mga programa ng ating Presidente (The students, farmers, and other sectors that need the government’s immediate attention. Those are the details that I wish to hear),” he stressed.
